WebCam

Take a look to the left just above the 'links'. Do you see it!?!? Do ya!?!? Yes it is a web cam. The image is reset every 60 seconds. So just hit 'refresh' to see a new image if I am online at that time. I guess no more naked surfing. Also if you click on the image it will open it up in another window and the image will be larger in size on the screen not physical size.

Google Toolbar

Google Toolbar. The new Google toolbar has a 'Blog This' button that is totally sweet. Just click it and send the page to the blog. It also has a 'Popup Blocker' and 'AutoFill' function to fill in web forms.

Spam filters go bye-bye

Tusco.net finally got the hint. They set up spam controls via a web interface to allow people to control the spam filters themselves. Of course I turned mine off because I use MailWasher. I am just glad that I can now recieve all my mail. When I checked my quarintined mail I had 154 messages. Over half were good mail. This makes you wonder what you might have been missing.

The birds are in the nests.

The cats are in the bag. The weiner is in the snishtzal. The fox is in the hen house. The ball is in the hoop. Ellen is in the closet. The doflinky is in the thingy. Santa is on the roof. Santa is in the chimney. The stew is in the pot. The corn is in the kettle. The iron is in the fire. The rabbit is in the hole. The HomestarRunner likes fluffety puffety marshmellows, and melonade.
What is the point of this you might ask? I don't know. All I wanted to post was that Luke and Kate both made it safely to their destinations. Luke was apperently a little worse for wear but okay.

Have fun over seas

I would just like to wish Luke (Germany) and Kate (South Africa) a fun, safe, and most excellent time this summer. Stay out of trouble (Luke) and come home safe. And any info about how far along they are in the computer industry in these places would be wonderful. Out for now.

Earth Shift or Worm Hole

This maybe a stupid question but I am going to ask it any way. Is my house near Akron or Tippicanoe? Was there some sort of shift in the earth that put it near either of these two places? Or maybe a worm hole that has caused a rift in the space time continum? Any way you look at it why did a red Pontiac Sunfire drive down the road the afternoon, slow up in front of the house, and then speed away when I was spotted on the mower? I do not remember here being there. As it can be said, "Whatever." And that is how I will look at it. Until next time, peace out.

Leg Cramps

Does any one know what to do about leg cramps? This is the second night of them. Both of my calf muscles are just knotted up. One was bad enough but now both are. Any suggestions?

E-mail problems

So alot of people are having trouble sending me e-mails. This seems to be a common problem with Tusco.net anymore. I have been having problems with four different Tech Newsletters, two of which are Tech TV newsletters and Chris Pirillo's Lockergnome Reports. So if you try to send an e-mail about this blog and get denied, I have just put up another e-mail link to a Yahoo! address. Just one more of many that I will have to check. Thank goodness for "ePrompter" (this is called a shameless plug in the entertainment biz). Check it out.

Duct Tape is cool

I love Duct Tape. My new wallet just came in. And yes it is made out of Duct Tape. It is so cool. I also got three shirts. 'The Hacker Element', 'Network Security', and 'I am Blogging this.' These are all at Thinkgeek.com. I jus heard on Techlive on TechTV that there is going to be a live action Transformers movie. They are in the process of finding a studio right now. Once again '80's cartoons were the best. Until next time.

Pics from the partay!!

Having some problems posting pics from the party. Will try to get it fixed so you all can see some.

The pics, the pics!

Ok, I am in a little bit of a state of shock right now. During Val's party I was keeping track of the amount of pics that I was taking according to the counter on the camera. I estimated around 120 shots. Well I was off by just a small number. Around 100 off. I took 220 pics. "Oh dios mio!" Alot more editing than I thought. I should have some of the pics up tomorrow. Until then peace out.

Friday, June 13, 2003

Val's party is today. Hope to get lots of good pics. So keep an eye open here for them. Also for those wondering what's in my box (computer tower), I will be getting a link up shortly that tells all. Later.

Has anyone noticed the heading at the top of the page? "Home of the 'Extreme Alpha Geek'. The Slovak Pirating on dialup." I need to thank Luke and Kate for the inspiration on that one.
Just thought that I would post something. I can not sleep for some reason. It is not that there are things on my mind or something is troubling me I just can not lay down and sleep. So here I am in front of my computer typing away just for the hell of it. So while I am here I might as well put up 10 of my favorite links and tell what they are.
1. Remember Wesley Crusher(Wil Wheaton) from Star Trek The Next Gen. Here is his blog WilWheaton.net.
2. Here is a site that has stupid news. Luke you should like this one, Fark.com.
3. Here is a site that is news for nerds so to speek, Slashdot.org.
4. Ever wonder what some web pages looked like a long, long, long time ago, you know back in 1996. Try Internet Archive.
5. Have a digital picture that you would like to see as a painting, well digital painting atleast. Try Painted Snapshots. It does cost a chunk of change to have done but for that perfect present it would be cool.
6. Wonder if your computer is up to par or just curious how it stacks up to others. Try PCPitstop.com. Also check for viruses here.
7. Looking for that perfect font in MS Word but not finding it. Try 1001fonts.com. Just search for what type you are looking for.
8. Looking for a tech definition. Just go to Webopedia.com.
9. For the gearhead in all of us, its Monster, Monster Garage. Starring that master of mayhem Jesse James. (Allow the Monster Garage site to load fully to get the full effect.)
10. And finally because I am a huge geek why not a store just for us. ThinkGeek.com, I have made many a purchase from them.

Okay I know someone is going to say "Hey, you have 11 links listed here." Well I know that. But it is my blog and I will do what I want. Besides, I just had to add the Jesse James link in there. As always if you have any questions or comments just click the email me link to the left. And for those of you that know me well enough will notice that it is not my main address. Just a quick bit of info there. Peace out all.

PROVES THAT THERE ARE DUMBER PEOPLE ON A COMPUTER THAN THE REST OF US.

Don't feel stupid about using your computer - read on:

1. Compaq is considering changing the command "Press Any Key" to Press Return Key" because of the flood of calls asking where the Any Key is.

2. AST technical support had a caller complaining that her mouse was hard to control with the dust cover on. The cover turned out to be the plastic bag the mouse was packaged in.

3. Another AST customer was asked to send a copy of her defective diskettes. A few days later a letter arrived from the customer along with photocopies of the floppies.

4. Another Dell customer called to say he couldn't get his computer to fax anything. After 40 minutes of troubleshooting, the technician discovered the man was trying to fax a piece of paper by holding it in front of the monitor screen and hitting the "send" key.

5. A Dell technician received a call from a customer who was enraged because his computer had told him he was "bad and an invalid." The tech explained that the computer's "bad command" and "invalid" responses shouldn't be taken personally.

6. A confused caller to IBM was having troubles printing documents. He told the technician that the computer had said it "couldn't find printer." The user had also tried turning the computer screen to face the printer but that his computer still couldn't "see" the printer."

7. An exasperated caller to Dell Computer Tech Support couldn't get her new Dell Computer to turn on. After ensuring the computer was plugged in, the technician asked her what happened when she pushed the power button. Her response, "I pushed and pushed on this foot pedal and nothing happens." The "foot pedal" turned out to be the mouse.

8. Another customer called Compaq tech support to say her brand-new computer wouldn't work. She said she unpacked the unit, plugged it in and sat there for 20 minutes waiting for something to happen. When asked what happened when she pressed the power switch, she asked "What power switch?"

9. Another IBM customer had troubles installing software and rang for support. "I put in the first disk, and that was OK. It said
to put in the second disk, and I had some problems with the disk. When it said to put in the third disk, I couldn't even fit it in...." The user hadn't realized that "Insert Disk 2" meant to remove Disk 1 first.

10. In a similar incident, a customer had followed the instructions for installing software. The instructions said to remove the disk from its cover and insert into the drive. The user had physically removed the casing of the disk and wondered why there were problems.

11. True story from a Novell NetWare Sysop:
Caller: "Hello, is this Tech Support?"
Tech: "Yes, it is. How may I help you?"
Caller: "The cup holder on my PC is broken and I am within my warranty period. How do I go about getting that fixed?"
Tech: "I'm sorry, but did you say a cup holder?"
Caller: "Yes, it's attached to the front of my computer."
Tech: "Please excuse me. If I seem a bit stumped, it's because I am. Did you receive this as part of a promotional at a trade show? How did you get this cup holder?
Caller: It came with my computer. I don't know anything about a promotion. It just has '4X' on it."
At this point, the Tech Rep had to mute the caller because he couldn't stand it. He was laughing too hard. The caller had been using the load drawer of the CD-ROM drive as a cup holder and snapped it off the drive.

12. A woman called the Canon help desk with a problem with her printer. The tech asked her if she was running it under "Windows." The woman responded, "No, my desk is next to the door. But that is a good point. The man sitting in the cubicle next to me is under a window and his printer is working fine."

13. Tech Support: "O.K. Bob, let's press the control and escape keys at the same time. That brings up a task list in the middle of the screen. Now type the letter "P" to bring up the Program Manager."
Customer: "I don't have a 'P'."
Tech: "On your keyboard, Bob."
Customer: "What do you mean?"
Tech: "'P' on your keyboard, Bob."
Customer: "I'm not going to do that!"

Now don't you feel better about your skill level?
I have finished with all the touchups on the pics from the graduation. Total file size of all the original pics and the touchups in both jpeg and bitmap is just shy of one gig. That is one hell of a lot of space.
Here is a site for all you dog lovers, dog blog. I posted two pics of Beulah

Does anyone else hate phone solicitors as much as I do? 10 calls in the last two and a half hours. That is absurd. I thought that spam in my inbox was annoying, but I can at least delete it. I think the next one to call I will cuse out in some other language or make up my own as I go along and make them think that I am crazy. Not that I already am, but they do not know that. I need to get back to converting these databases. Just wanted to get that out.

Sunday, June 01, 2003

Ok, now that the fun for the day is over. It is time to get to work. I have started to do the touchup on the rest of the pics that I took today. Only took 72 of them. Also here is a good download for those of you that do not already have it. It is the Google Toolbar. It's no secret Google rules the Web. Its search results are the best on the Net. Google Toolbar attaches to Internet Explorer and comes bundled with some of Google's best search functions. Here's how to install it:

1. Surf to the Google Toolbar download page, choose your language, and Download.
2. Accept the terms of use.
3. Choose either standard or advanced toolbar.
4. Run the install tool.

A Google search box will appear on the left of your IE toolbar. Expect these features:

1. Site search: Search only the pages of the site you're visiting.
2. Word find: Find your search terms wherever they appear on the page.
3. Highlight: Highlight your search terms as they appear on the page, each word in its own color.
4. Page rank: See Google's ranking of the current page.
5. Page info: Access more information about a page, similar pages, pages that link back to that page, and a cached snapshot.

If for some reason you want to go straight to the Google homepage, or its News, Images, Answers, or Groups pages, or if you want to uninstall the Google Toolbar, cascade out the menu under the Google icon and choose where you want to go.
The toolbar will only work on versions of Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher on a Windows machine.

Thats it for tonight.
Here are two more that I forgot.

Getting ready for my cousin's graduation from Claymont. It is at two o'clock. I am her official photographer for this event. I will post some pics when I get back in.
If some images or anything does not show up just bear with me.
Ok I have the blog up and running. Now I am learning how to use it. This is going to be fun.
